Coimbatore:
In a significant initiative aimed at restoring mobility and independence, more than 500 people who lost their limbs due to accidents and various medical conditions were provided with free advanced prosthetic legs in Coimbatore.
The camp was organised by Narayan Seva Sansthan, a Udaipur-based organisation that has been conducting free prosthetic limb camps for persons with disabilities across India and in several African countries.
The camp, which marked the organisation’s second such initiative in Tamil Nadu, focused on providing modern 3D prosthetic calipers to beneficiaries.
Five Hundred of persons with disabilities from various districts including Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli, as well as from Karnataka and Kerala, participated in the camp.
The beneficiaries had undergone measurements approximately two months earlier. Based on these measurements, a team of medical experts examined the beneficiaries and fitted specially prepared 3D prosthetic calipers incorporating Japanese and German technology.
The lightweight and modern prosthetic limbs have provided renewed confidence to the beneficiaries. Many of those who received the artificial limbs expressed happiness that the new technology would make it easier for them to walk, carry out their daily activities and lead a more independent life.
The initiative has brought a new ray of hope to people who had been struggling with mobility after losing their limbs due to accidents and illnesses.
